Anthony Houston Obituary

Anthony C. “Tony” Houston, 61, Born to the union of Dennis and Nezarine (Barr) Houston on November 22, 1955 who proceeded him in death, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2017 at his residence in Streator surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Chicago Anthony attended Chicago Public schools and graduated from Tilden High School. He also attended Arkansas State University. where he met his first wife Doris (Huggins) Houston who proceeded him in death. Of this union came Tammy Houston of Arkansas, Anthony (Tiffany) Houston of Chicago, Ebony (Tina) Houston of Arkansas, And his life long friend Percy Bland of Philadelphia.

Tony worked as a social worker for 25 years where he meet his second wife Tammie (Taylor, Walls) Houston. of this union came Jimmie (Maria) Walls-Houston of Cicero, Jamaica (Joshua Jenkins) Houston of Streator, Summer Houston of Streator, Isaiah Mandela Houston of Streator and and 17 grandchildren.

Tony was a mentor and father to all who crossed his path. He played a big part in the community. Tony coached in Chicago and Streator baseball, football , and basketball. Tony also was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. Tony was the director of the first lead program in Chicago. He did out reach program throughout the city to secure the future of young black youths.

Tony gave so much of himself to others and managed to still fulfill ever need and obligation of his family. He was a peaceful man who gave guidance to all in few words. you could never say no or argue with him, he had the gift of wisdom that would make you think twice. If you ever met Tony you will be for ever changed. he never dropped a friend he always picked them up. he was a selfless and fun loving man and will be missed by many.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; a sisters, Katherine (Larry Lewis) Houston and DeRhonda (william) Thomas; and brothers, Dennis Houston Jr., Darnell (Denise) Houston and Socrates Houston.

Leave to mourn his children: Tammy Houston of Arkansas, Anthony (Tiffany) Houston of Chicago, Ebony (Tina) Houston of Arkansas, Jimmie (Maria) Walls-Houston of Cicero, Jamaica (Joshua Jenkins) Houston of Streator, Summer Houston of Streator, Isaiah Mandela Houston of Streator and and 17 grandchildren. A sister, Cynthia (Marcus) Cage of Chicago; A brother, Marcus (Pamela) Houston of Danville, in-laws that loved him dearly and a very special friend Percy Bland.
