Frederick W. Pflibsen

Frederick W. “Rick” Pflibsen, 54, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and formerly of Streator passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Raymond Guthrie will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Born February 23, 1963 in Ottawa he was the son of Eugene and Shirley (Amos) Pflibsen.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Thomas of Streator; sisters, Peggy (Randy) Witte of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kathy Meis of Urbana; brothers, Dick Pflibsen of Streator and David Pflibsen of Streator; a step-sister, Sally (Rick) Renner of Mackinaw; step-brothers, Jack (Janice) Thomas of Streator and Gary (Sandy) Thomas of Wenona; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Pflibsen; a brother, Tom Pflibsen; his step-father, Jack Thomas; maternal grandparents, Bruce and Laurine Amos; and paternal grandparents, Fred and Margaret Pflibsen.

He was raised in Streator and attended local grade schools and graduated from Streator High School Class of 1981. He also attended Wichita Automotive and Electrical Institute.

He worked for several years repairing cash registers and later started working at the Cedar Rapids Elks Club where he served in various capacities. He was currently working at the Cedar Rapids Elks Club as well as the Marriott Hotel in Cedar Rapids.

Known to his family and close friends as “Too Tall” Rick loved sports of all kinds and especially NASCAR. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
