June Churney Obituary

June A. Churney, 74, of Streator passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ray Guthrie will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be Greg and Kevin Churney; Markus and Marlon Pomili; and Andrew Churney and Robert Sauers. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jack Sauers and Kenny Renner.

Born June 11, 1943 in Streator she was the daughter of Elmer and Irene (Poldek) Sauers. She married Robert J. Churney on October 19, 1963.

She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Churney of Streator; a daughter, Mary Jane (Miro) Pomili of Lakewood; a son, Robert J. (Barb) Churney Jr. of Bartlett; grandchildren, Grace, Greg and Kevin Churney; Markus and Marlon Pomili; a sister, Shirley Zion of Denton, Texas; brothers, Robert (Becky) Sauers of Streator and Jack (Aggie) Sauers of Streator; a sister in law, Marilyn Sauers of Bloomington and brother in laws, Andrew Kovach of Janesville, Wisconsin and Andy Churney of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Diane Kovach; a brother, James Sauers; and a brother in law, Louie Zion.

Born and raised in Streator she attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School Class of 1961.

She worked for a time at Lipton Tea Company.

She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. She was also of member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and St. Clement’s Society.

June was a very active parish member as St. Stephen’s Church. She volunteered cleaning the church and preparing the altar and sacristy for Sunday Mass. She also was a very active parent while her kids attended St. Stephens School. She was a member of the Parents Club and volunteered whenever needed. She also taught C.C.D. for many years.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
