Katherine A. (Chalkey) Baumgardner, 81, of Shirley and formerly of Streator passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 P. M. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Fr. Ray Guthrie will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Friday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.
Born August 7, 1936 in Streator she was the daughter of Albert and Beatrice (Crawford) Chalkey. She married James Floyd Baumgardner on August 3, 1957 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon Kopp of Normal, Patricia (Larry) Lynn of Towanda and Linda (Rick) Hilton of Bloomington; a son, Michael (Jan) Baumgardner of Bloomington; grandchildren, Nikki (Joe Fogarty) Hilton, Megan (Nate) McCauley, Jordan Lynn, Evan Kopp, Taylor Kopp and Dylan Baumgardner; great grandchildren, Levi and Natalie Kopp, Lilly Fogarty and Logan McCauley; sisters, Margaret Yanak of Overland Park, KS, Nancy (Richard) Battershell of Streator; brothers, William "Mick" Chalkey, Richard “Dick” (Cindy) Chalkey and Thomas Chalkey, all of Streator; sister in law, Shirley Chalkey of CA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family would also like to extend their appreciation to Midge Potts for her support and friendship shown to Katherine over these last several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Terrance Chalkey; son in law, David Kopp and nephew, David Chalkey.
Born and raised in Streator she attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and Streator High School. Katherine moved to the Bloomington area in her early 20’s where she remained until her death.
Through the years she worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company and later worked for Eureka Company, retiring after 28 years on the production line.
She was a former member of St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to Holy Trinity Church in Bloomington. She was also a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, Lodge 1000, and the Rusty Hinges water aerobics group at the YMCA.
Memorial may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
