Robert L. Fornero, 70, of Streator passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at his residence in Streator.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Rodney Kreier will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his grandson, Daniel Snedden, son in law, Dan Snedden, brother in law, Steve Gentert, nephew, David Gentert; and friends, Tim Redd and Bob East. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Born December 15, 1946 in Streator he was the son of Robert and Irma (Niehaus) Fornero. He married Sheila J. Barrett on March 8, 1969 in Gwinn, Michigan. She survives in Streator.
He is also survived by a daughter, Wendy (Dan) Snedden of Streator; grandson, Daniel Snedden of Streator; a brother, Jim Fornero of Streator; sister in laws, Vicki (Stephen) Barrett - Gentert of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Lynn Fornero of Long Point, Linda Barrett â Lopez of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Dolly Barrett of Streator; and brother in laws, David (Laurie Schlumpf) Barrett of Gwinn, Michigan and Kenneth (Joanne Meni) Barrett of Gwinn, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark Fornero; mother and father in laws, Carlo and Donna Barrett; a nephew, Jacob Barrett; his beloved dog, Snoopy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School class of 1965.
He served in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He also served at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya when Muammar Gadaffiâs Army overthrew King Indris of Libya.
He worked for Vactor Manufacturing for nearly 50 years retiring April of 2013. When he retired he was Vactorâs longest tenured employee.
He was a former member of the Marshall County Sportsmenâs Club.
Bob was an outdoorsman and he loved camping, fishing and hunting. He particularly enjoyed his hunting trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His love for life was simple pleasures including, coaching and watching his daughter Wendy play softball, attending his grandson Danielâs High School and College football games, going to Aruba with his brother Jim, being waited on by his sister in law (his other wife) Vicki, having Saturday night dinner with family and friends, talking over the fence with neighbors and watching Da Bears. He also got to fulfill a life-long dream of going on an Alaskan cruise. Most importantly, with tears in his eyes, Bob announced that he could die a happy man, now that his Chicago Cubs had won the World Series.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donorâs choice.
