Sandra J. Benner

Sandra J. Benner, 78, of Streator passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ray Guthrie will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

Private family burial will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery at a later date.

Born January 3, 1939 in Streator she was the daughter of Wilfred and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Moore) Schmitt. She married Richard H. Benner on August 16, 1958 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Benner of Streator; a daughter, Diane (John) Rix of Marseilles; sons, Dave Benner of Streator, Michael (Sharon) Benner of Cornell and James (Christy) Benner of Ancona; grandchildren, George (Sara) Rix of Champaign, Jacob Rix of Champaign, Faith (John) Kennedy of Streator, Monica Benner of Decatur, Ross Benner of Dubuque, Iowa, Lindsay Benner of Ancona and Kaleigh Benner of Ancona; and a sister, Gail Long of Chillicothe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Rick and Bob Schmitt.

Born and raised in Streator she attended Plumb Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1957.

She was primarily a homemaker through the years. After her children were raised she worked at Kmart, Ace Hardware and as a monitor for First Student Bus Company.

She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
