Ronald E. “Pup” Mehalic Sr., 75, of Ancona passed away at 12:00 A.M. Thursday, November 22, 2012 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church. Fr. Dustin Schultz will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be nephews, Brian Hoffmeyer, Michael Mance, Todd Baker, Todd Mehalic and Michael Centko; and a god son, Sean Chalkey. Third Degree member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born February 4, 1937 in Streator he was the son of Joseph and Anna (Nemec) Mehalic. He married Janet Baker on November 22, 1956 at St. Anthony Church, Streator. She survives in Streator.
He is also survived by a daughter, Lynn (Dr. Edward) Staver of Streator; sons, Ron E. (Tammy) Mehalic Jr., of Lacon and Joe (Sally Roach) Mehalic of Streator; grandchildren, Jacob and Cody Mehalic; step granddaughter, Kate Jason; step great grandchildren, Kaya and Khloe Erbe and Silas Jason; sisters, Ann Centko of Streator, Evelyn Mehalic of Streator; a brother, Bob Mehalic of Streator; many nieces, nephews, brothers and sister in laws also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sr. Marietta Mehalic O.S.F., Eleanor Chismarick, Fran Ramza and Bernadine Mehalic; and a brother, John “Whitey” Mehalic.
He attended St. Stephen’s grade school and graduated from Woodland High School in 1955.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.
He worked for Streator Brick for 39 years retiring in 1999. After his retirement he never had an idle day. Taking care of his garden and yard was his pride. Watching the Cubs was his passion and frustration. Now he can help them from his heavenly recliner. You always knew where you stood with Pup. We miss him already.
