Aletha Maie (Brust) Sulzberger, 96, formerly of La Plata Mo., passed away 2 February 2018 at Tiger Place Independent Living in Columbia, Mo. She was born 7 August 1921 to Francis “Frank” C. Brust, Sr. and Catherine (Stevenson) Brust in Odell, Illinois, the second of six children.
Aletha married Lester Sulzberger August 26, 1938; Lester passed in 2012 after 74 years of marriage. She was a homemaker in Carrollton for twenty years and La Plata for fifty years. She moved to Tiger Place in Columbia in 2015. Aletha is survived by sons Harry M. Sulzberger of Columbia, Mo. and Ronald L. Sulzberger of Freeman, Mo., grandchildren Leigh Ann Pool, Elizabeth Hollas, and Patrick Sulzberger, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Jack (Joann) Brust, Donald (Dorothy) Brust, Margaret “Peg” (Bob) Myers, Francis “Junior” (Esther) Brust, and Catherine “Kay”(Junior) Hobart. Her daughter-in-law Charlotte Ann Sulzberger passed in August 2017.
Aletha was a long time member of the Methodist Church. She and her husband were avid golfers during their retired years and she had four hole-in-ones. A visitation will be held at the Travis Funeral Chapel in LaPlata, Mo. Monday, February 5 at 5 pm. There will be a graveside service Wednesday, February 7 at 2 pm at Allen Township Cemetery, Ransom, Illinois. The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
