Anne J. Flanigan

Anne Jane Flanigan, 88, of Streator passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Raymond Guthrie will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be nephews, Timothy Solon, Terance Solon, Donald Solon, Dan Snow and Jeff Flanigan; a niece, Michelle Solon; and Norm Potthoff.

Born December 23, 1929 in Streator, she was the daughter of John E. and Margaret E. (Moore) Solon. She married Edward A. Flanigan on February 16, 1963 at Immaculate Conception Church, Streator. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2009.

She is survived by a son, Edward John “E.J.” (Kay) Flanigan of Streator; grandchildren, Ryan, Drake and Katelyn Flanigan all of Streator; nephews, Timothy (Rita) Solon of Florida, Terance (Joan) Solon of California, Donald (Mary) Solon of Arizona, David Solon of Florida and Mark Solon of Bloomington; a niece, Michelle Solon of Washington; and sister in laws, Margaret “Pat” Flanigan of Streator, Margaret “Peg” (Norris) Snow of Streator and Marilyn Flanigan of Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Ann in infancy; and a brother, John J. Solon.

Born and raised in Streator, she attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1947. She attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota from 1947-1949 and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1951. While attending the University of Illinois, she was given the 1950-1951 Senior Service Award for her work in helping reorganize the Theta Phi Alpha, Beta Chapter. The award was presented in recognition of her leadership, scholarship, and service to the University and Fraternity.
Upon graduation from the U of I, she joined Owens-Illinois as Assistant Women’s Personnel Director where she worked for 13 years. In 1976 she joined St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Library where she worked for 26 years. Through the years she formed life long bonds with the medical staff and employees of St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was a member of Delta Theta Tau (a local social sorority), Mother’s Study Club, Philomenthean Club, Streator Literary Club, she was founding member of the Streatorland Historical Society and a patron and supporter of Engle Lane Theater. She was also a member of Annunciation B.V.M. Eagle Church.

Anne Jane was always there whenever needed by family and friends and will be forever treasured by all who knew her.
