STREATOR_ Arthur J. “Art” Cotter 92 of Streator died Friday Afternoon (September 14, 2018) at Heritage Health, Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator with Rev. Ryan Mattingly, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 AM Wednesday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Burial with Full Military Rites conducted by member of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator.
Mr. Cotter was born December 28, 1925 in Streator the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Fisher) Cotter. He married Jeanette “Jean” Spangler, February 10, 1946 in Arkansas. She preceded him in death May 28, 1987.
Art had been employed for 37 ½ years at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. Streator retiring as the Foreman in the Mold Shop, he also had owned and operated Art’s Record and TV Repair. He had farmed in Esman Township for four years. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, and currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, American Legion Post # 217, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492, United Commercial Travelers, the Marshall County Sportsman Club and Lazy Acres. Art served in Germany during WWII in the US Army. He had attended Cornell and Pontiac High Schools.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandy (Lee) McCumsey, Streator, two grandsons, Brian (Tori) McCumsey, Davenport Iowa and Randy McCumsey, Rochelle, great grandchildren, Tyler, Brileigh, Amanda and Alyssa McCumsey, three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Also surviving is a longtime friend, Lila Southey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Rita Sopko and Agnes Defenbaugh and two brothers, Harold and Kenneth Cotter.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian and Randy McCumsey, great grandson Tyler McCumsey,and friends, Ted Quaka, Dave Marcin and Steve Southey. Honorary Pallbearers will be great granddaughters, Amanda, Alyssa and Brileigh McCumsey.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
