Donald G. Pouk

Donald G. Pouk, 90, of Streator passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be nephews, David, Gary and DJ Wargo; Daniel McGowan and Daniel Ruszkowski and a friend, Mike Abdnour. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born January 16, 1928 in Streator, he was the son of George and Mary (Corpin) Pouk. He married Donna McGowan on October 24, 1953 at St. Bernard’s Church in Sunbury. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2006.

He is survived by a sister, Norma Wargo of Streator; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Born and raised in Streator, he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1946.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served on a Mortar Platoon.

He worked for many years as a flooring installer. He first worked for Abe Stortz at Streator Floor Covering along with a good friend Bob Kudrick. He then worked independently for many years installing flooring in homes all over Streator and the surrounding areas.

He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Don enjoyed traveling through the years along with his wife Donna. They especially liked traveling to Florida on several occasions. He also looked forward to his trips to his Army reunions he made on an annual basis.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
