Earnest O. Richards

Earnest O. Richards, 95, of Streator passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born April 9, 1922 in Southern, Illinois he was the son of James and Fannie (Bryan) Richards. He married Virginia Day. She preceded him in death in 1980. He later married Antoinette Mindock. She also preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Reed of Lincoln; a son, Lee (Becky) Richards of Streator; grandchildren, Nicholas (Shannon) Richards of Ottawa and Jacob (Michelle) Richards of Champaign; grandchildren, Gage, Alexis, Donald, Heath and Edith Richards; sisters, Ruth Richards and Jeanette Willis; a brother, Donald Richards; step-granddaughter, Sherry (Don) Barber; step-great grandchildren, Stephen and Tyler Barber.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Zurlinden; son in law, David Reed; grandson, Alex Reed; and a step-daughter, Connie Slomian.

He served in the United States Army 104th Infantry Timberwolves Division in the European Theatre of Operation during WW II. He is a Bronze Star recipient.

He was a Maintenance Supervisor for Smith Douglass Company his entire career.
