Elsie M. Rieck

Elsie M. Rieck, 82, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at her residence in Streator.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11am on Monday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator, followed by funeral services at 11:00am. Dr. Rory Christensen will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Born June 18, 1935 in Streator, Elsie was the daughter of Fred and Anna (Grieder) Cowling. She married Raymond F. Rieck on September 26, 1954 in Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2003.

Elsie is survived by a son, Mark (Lynne) Rieck of Valencia, California; a step-daughter, Carla (William) Schopp of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren: Kathryn (Chris) Anderson, Emily Rieck, Jennifer (Brian) LaPoint, Sarah (Frank) Williams and Ryan (Michelle) Schopp; great- grandchildren: Brianne LaPoint, Thomas LaPoint and Briley Ray Williams; and a sister, Jeannie (Larry) Casey of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Barbara Simmons.

Elsie attended school in the Wenona, Toluca and Streator areas and graduated from Wenona High School.

She worked through the years for Thatcher’s Glass Manufacturing, Montgomery Wards and retired from Chris’ Flower Shop.

Elsie was a member of Central Church of Christ and the Red Hat Society. She also enjoyed Friday night dinners with her dear friends, Winnie Wellman, Cleta Cinnamon, Valoy Zbinden and their gifted chauffer, Charles Wellman. Elsie was especially blessed to have Jane Fowler as her devoted caregiver.

Memorials may be directed to the City of Streator, Downtown Restoration Projects.
