Elvin Quinn Obituary

Elvin L. Quinn, 89, of Streator passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator. Rev. John Gutz will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the services on Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Tim, Zach and Patrick Quinn, Eric Lechner, Ben Brown, Dustin Mrozinski and Brandon Hickey. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born April 8, 1930 in Beardstown he was the son of Richard and Corena (Krems) Quinn. He married Marilyn Dzuris on October 31, 1954 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. They were married by Rev. John Daniel.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Quinn of Streator; a daughter, Ruth (Mike) Lechner of Streator; sons, Dave (Connie) Quinn of Streator and Rev. Daniel (Melony) Quinn of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brandon) Hickey of Gilbert, Arizona, Patrick Quinn of Bloomington, Tim (Jessie) Quinn of Wausau, Wisconsin, Erin (Dustin) Mrozinski of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Katie Quinn of The Woodlands, Texas, Laura Quinn of Austin, Texas, Zachary Quinn of The Woodlands, Texas, Abbey (Ben) Brown of Streator and Eric Lechner of Muscatine, Iowa; great grandchildren, Bailey Quinn, Carson and Kenzie Mrozinski; and Benny, Dylan and Brooklyn Brown; and a brother, Bill Andree of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his foster parents who raised him from a young age, Guy Defenbaugh, Lula Defenbaugh-Andre and Alfred Andree; a sister, Marion Duca and a brother, Charles Defenbaugh.

Elvin lived in the Beardstown, Cornell and the Dana areas for several years moving to Streator in 1959. He attended a country grade school near Cornell and graduated from Wenona High School.

He served in the United State Army during the Korean Conflict where he saw time in combat.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in Bible studies at the church for many years. He was also a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League and the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217.

Elvin enjoyed fishing with his family and taking fishing trips to Canada.

He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Manufacturing as a Machine Operator for over 30 years. He also owned and operated Quinn Water Well Drilling for many years. Elvin was an accomplished well witcher.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
