James Samuel Orr

CORNELL - James Samuel Orr, 91 formerly of rural Cornell passed away Tuesday (December 26, 2017) at 5:03 PM at Royal Oaks Care Center, Kewanee.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator, with Rev. Sharon Garretson officiating. Visitation will be from Noon-2:00 PM Saturday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home.

Mr. Orr was born December 17, 1926 in Streator, the son of Sam and Alice (Turner) Orr. He married Barbara Locke, March 11, 1950. She survives.

Following retirement from farming, Jim worked for Williamson Farm Drainage for several years and later enjoyed helping his son farm in the Cornell and Manville areas.

Jim was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending several weeks each summer fishing some of the lakes in the Hayward, Wisconsin area, wanting to catch the “big one”. He finally did catch a 36” musky on Lake Chippewa of which he was extremely proud. Jim loved all living creatures and nature, he especially enjoyed the company and companionship of all his dogs and walking them each evening down a country road. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, a smoke and telling stories to anyone who would listen. Jim was a veteran of the US Army.

He attended Cornell Grade School and was a graduate of Cornell High School.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of Pontiac, one daughter Janet Andres, Cullom, one son, Matt (Laurie) Orr, Manville, grandchildren, Joe Andres, Kelly Sargeant, Travis Rinaldis, Chelsea Rinaldis and Tyler Rinaldis and many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Karen Rinaldis and one sister Versal DeCicco.

Memorials may be made to Livingston County Humane Society.
