Kathy was born and raised in Long Point, the daughter of William “Bill” and Wilma (Brown) Beutke.
She was one of six siblings, Sharon (Donald) Galick of Streator, William “Bill” (SueAnn) Beutke of North Carolina, Connie (John) Lechner of Darien, Cindy (Robert “Bob”) McConnell of Aurora and Ken (Mary) Beutke of Long Point.
She attended Woodland schools where she met her high school sweetheart and husband, Jerome Ftacek whom she married in 1973. He survives in Streator. Also surviving are two sons, Jeremy (Julie) Ftacek of Arrington, Tennessee and Joshua Ftacek of Bloomington.
Kathy was always present at her sons’ games, whether it was basketball, baseball, football or soccer. Kathy was also involved in the startup of the Streator Youth Soccer committee and eventually served on the board of SYS.
She worked for St. Mary’s Hospital Home Health and Hospice for 20+ years before retiring in 2014. She previously had worked for Union National Bank and SCI corporation.
Kathy was an aunt to many nephews and nieces, but loved being Mama the most, to her three grandchildren, Blake, Brandon and finally a girl, Brooke. She loved spending time with them and shopping for their gifts, whether a holiday or just a random Wednesday.
Kathy spent her final few years battling Alzheimer’s with help from some amazing caretakers, especially Joann, Marcia, Shari and Kristin. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.
Kathy loved crocheting, cross stitching, crosswords puzzles and reading books. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Woodland Education Foundation, Brain Support Network, American Alzheimer’s Association, St. Stephen’s Cemetery Association or Joliet Area Hospice.
