Mary Ann Tkach, 91, of Streator passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jason and Seth Christensen; great grandson, Nolan Blackford; and Jim Vargovcik, Bob Harback, Steve Wilkinson and Jim Gallick. Honorary pallbearer will be, Louis “Ben” Tkach.
Born December 10, 1927 in Streator she was the daughter of Michael and Anna (Stavar) Vargovcik. She married Louis J. Tkach on July 10, 1948. He preceded her in death in February of 1999.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Robert) Christensen of rural Ancona; a son, Louis “Randy” (Mary) Tkach of Hopewell; grandchildren, Carrie (Paul) Kelly of Naples, Florida, Jason (Anna) Christensen of Great Falls, Montana, Seth (Shannon Hart) Christensen of Chicago, Louis “Ben” Tkach of Hopewell, Roberta Tkach of Roanoke; great grandchildren, Nolan Blackford of Tallahassee, Florida and Orene and John Louis Christensen of Great Falls, Montana; step-great grandchildren, Georgia and Leo Kelly of Kentucky; a sister, Monica Wilkinson of Streator; a sister in law, Marilyn Vargovcik of Streator; many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Jeremy Tkach; a sister, Marcy Harback; a brother, Michael “Mick” Vargovcik; and brother in laws, George Harback and Jim Wilkinson.
Born and raised in Streator she attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1945.
She worked for GTE for over 30 years as an operator and also as a clerical worker until her retirement.
She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.
She was a long time member of the St. Stephen’s Parish Bakers. She loved to crochet and made over 100 Afghans, baby blankets and sweaters for her family and friends. She also enjoyed painting ceramics.
Mary Ann was devout Catholic woman and never missed mass.
Memorial may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
