Richard Leonard Missel passed away January 5, 2020 in Savannah, Georgia.
Born March 25, 1939 in Streator he was the son of Leonard E. Missel and Ethel (Pearson) Missel.
He was a graduate of Streator Township High School Class of 1957 with high honors and attended the University of Illinois.
Richard was an outstanding golfer and very knowledgeable about wildlife and nature. He loved history and languages and travel. He had artistic talent and an excellent memory. He was very thoughtful, kind and generous and will be very sorely missed.
Throughout his life he had many challenges to deal with. He worked with Leonard in farm equipment sales for a period before moving to Texas for a number of years.
In 2005 he relocated to Rhode Island to be close with his brother and family. He was able to have some of the very best years of his life, settling in, living independently nearby in his own home with his beloved cat, Jake. He enjoyed golf, his daily routine, visiting historic sites and traveling to Maine, Florida and Illinois.
Unfortunately, Richard faced his final challenge with the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s that came while plans were underway to relocate to Savannah. He faced that bravely.
Despite all, his good spirits and sense of humor were a great blessing to the end.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Laverne Charles Missel.
He is survived by one brother, Jerome and his wife Rebecca of Savannah, Georgia.
A gravesite memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator in the spring.
The Solon-Telford Funeral Home assisted the family with local arrangements.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Streator Township High School Education Foundation, 202 W. Lincoln Ave., Streator, IL. 61364
