Ruth A. Thomas

Ruth A. Thomas, 83, of Normal and formerly of Streator passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at Epiphany Catholic Church, 1000 E. College Ave, Normal, Illinois 61761. Msgr. Eric S. Powell will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Tuesday at the church.

Private burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jeff Thomas, Sara Norris, Krystal West, Andrew Majernik, Becca Wagner and Matthew Wagner. Honorary pallbearers will be, Abby Bueltel, Trent West, Lauren Majernik, Jim Norris and Brett Bueltel.

The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born July 14, 1934 in Streator she was the daughter of Theodore and Irene (Palaschak) Promenschenkel. She married J. Richard “Dick” Thomas on June 26, 1954 at St. Anthony Church, Streator. He survives in Normal.

She is also survived by a son, Joseph (Karan) Thomas of Huntingburg, Indiana; daughters, Jamie St. John of Kankakee, Tracy (Thomas) Majernik of Normal and Beth (Mike) Wagner of Normal; grandchildren, Abby (Brett) Bueltel of Cincinatti, Ohio, Jeff Thomas of Huntingburg, Indiana, Sara (Jim) Norris of Washington, Krystal (Trent) West of Troy, Andrew (Lauren) Majernik of Bloomington, Becca Wagner of Normal and Matthew Wagner of Normal; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia (Leon) Hoffman of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ted Promenschenkel; a sister, Phyllis Klein; a grandson, Thomas R. Majernik and a son in law, Marvin St. John.

Born and raised in Streator she attended Streator schools and graduated from Streator High School.

She worked the Times Press for 25 years as a bookkeeper and then worked for Reynolds West Insurance for 17 years as the office manager.

She lived in Streator her lifetime until moving to Normal with her husband 17 years ago.

She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church and was formerly a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Streator.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the O.S.F. Hospice or the O.S.F. St. Joseph Medical Center Chapel Renovation Fundraiser.
