Shearl Ray Obituary

Shearl L. Ray, 71, of Streator and formerly of the Wilmington area passed away Saturday, December 28, 2019 at her residence in Streator.

A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.

The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born July 2, 1948 in Joliet she was the daughter of Billy and Lois (Shawmeker) Ray.

She is survived by a daughter, Christa (David) Decker of Streator; a son, Brian (Wendy) Ray of Elgin; grandchildren, Seth, Tara and Raistlin Decker; Duncan and Braedon Ray; great grandchildren, Cayden and Declan Stirratt; a sister, Terri Ray of Aurora; a brother, Gary (Lisa) Ray of Corona, California and Larry Ray of Streator; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by parents; a brother, Jerry Ray and a nephew, Daniel Ray.

Raised in the Wilmington area she attended Wilmington grade schools and graduated from Wilmington High School. She later attended Joliet Junior College where she studied Organic Chemistry.

She worked for many years for Akzo Nobel as a Lab Tech (Chemist) in Morris. She retired in 2004. After her retirement she purchased the Blue Sky R.V. Park in Mountain View, Arkansas and operated it for 10 years before returning to Illinois.
