Shirley I. Nicholas

Shirley I. Nicholas, 84, of Streator passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Joliet Area Hospice Home in Joliet.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Rodney Kreier will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be Adam Roach, Alex Roach, Cody Roach, Jason Roach, John Roach, Andrew Schuh, Ryan Mushro and Mike Mushro.

Born January 19, 1935 in Streator she was the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Olson) Thomas. She married Lester “Nick” Nicholas on September 24, 1959. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1998.

She is survived by a daughter, Angie (Kyle) Roach of Streator; sons, Todd (Susan) Nicholas of Mahomet and Tom (Debbie Krumweide) Johnson of Ottawa; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Holmes of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Johnson; a sister, Marguerite Reeser; and brothers, Ben Thomas, Carl “Butch” Thomas, Harry “Bud” Thomas, John “Punky” Thomas and Lee Thomas.

Born and raised in Streator she attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School.

She worked as a cook in the Streator area through the years at various places including, The Streator Elk’s Club, Streator Country Club, American Legion and the V.F.W.

She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Streator Elk’s Club.

Shirley loved cooking and baking and was good at both. She also loved to knit. She loved her family very much and was always involved in the lives of her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
