Shirley J. Sullivan, 90, of Streator passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at a private care home in Streator where she was residing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Thursday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be her sons in law, John Langhoff and Ed Munson; grandson, Ben Munson; brother in law, Clarence Papenburg; and grandsons in law, Nick Nelson, Paul Weber and Adam Flanary.
Born November 7, 1928 in Streator she was the daughter of Thomas and Irene (Hart) Hornsby. She married John J. Sullivan on June 7, 1947 at Immaculate Conception Church, Streator. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2008.
She is survived by daughters, Cheryl (George) Placher of Lafayette, Louisiana, Jeanette (John) Langhoff of rural Blackstone and Debra (Ed) Munson of rural Manville; grandchildren, Stephen, Michael, Kathleen and Thomas Placher; Kristina (Nick) Nelson, Shawn (David) Beumel, Ben Munson, Sonya (Paul) Weber and Allison (Adam) Flanery; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Tom) Delheimer of Norman, Oklahoma, Pam (Clarence) Papenburg of rural Blackstone and Linda Kinkin of Streator; a brother, Don (Shirley) Hornsby of Streator; several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Norma Gaddis; and a brother Thomas Wayne Hornsby in infancy.
Born and raised in Streator she attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School.
She worked through the years for Lipton Tea Company, Murphy’s, TG&Y and Fashion Bug from where she retired.
She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.
Memorials may be directed to the American Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
