Shirley J. Zion

Shirley J. Zion, 83, of Denton, Texas and formerly of Streator passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Vintage Health Care Center in Denton, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11:30 A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Simon Taabu will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Casimir’s Cemetery in Streator. Pallbearers will be Kirt Behrens, Kraig Behrens, Josh Epperson, Paul Kovach, Bob Sauers, Justin Zion. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis “Butch” Zion, Jerry Dutko and Jack Sauers.
Born November 6, 1935 in Streator she was the daughter of Elmer and Irene (Poldek) Sauers. She Married Louis “Bud’ Zion on September 4, 1954. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2000.

She is survived by her son, Louis “Butch” Zion of Denton, Texas; a daughter, Mary Lynn (Kirt) Behrens of Denton, Texas; brothers Jack (Aggie) Sauers of Streator, Robert (Becky) Sauers of Streator; sisters in law, Nan Zion of Sterling, Cindy (Jerry) Dutko of Streator, Marilyn Sauers of Bloomington; and a brothers in law Bob Churney of Streator, Andrew Kovach of Janesville, Wisconsin; grandchildren Kraig Behrens, Kimberlee (Josh) Epperson; step grandchildren, Samantha (Gary) Miller, Monica Melvin and Butch Melvin; a great granddaughter Kennedee Epperson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband ; a sister June Churney; a sister Diane Kovach; a brother James Sauers; daughters in law Jayne Zion and Debbie Zion.

Born and raised in Streator she attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School.

She worked for many years at Sammons Communications in Denton. Prior to that Shirley owned and operated at catering business in Streator.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
