William R. “Butch” Gibbons, 84, of Streator passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 at his residence in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Full military honors will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
He was born October 11, 1933 in Chicago the son of Anthony and Lillian (Eckhart) Gibbons. He married Mary Ann Burash on October 19, 1957 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2018.
He is survived by a daughter, Lou Ann (Dave) Murray of Streator; granddaughters, Stephanie, Katie and Emily Murray; and a brother, Raymond “Tony” Gibbons of Lutherville, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by her parents and his wife.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Streator High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He worked as a Union Pipefitter for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.
He loved sports and watching games on T.V. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
