William McKim Obituary

William R. McKim, 72, of Streator passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 6:45 P.M. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass on Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 Pallbearers will be his nephews, Ted, Joe, David and Andy McKim; Ben Matt; and a grandson, Dylan Tooley. 3rd Degree members of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born June 9, 1945 in Waukegan he was the son of William and Ruth (Hockberger) McKim. He married Alice K. Uhlenhake on October 21, 1967 at St. Aloysius Church in Calmer, Iowa. She survives in Streator.

He is also survived by daughters, Amy (Tony) Tooley of Streator and Ann (Colin) Leslie of Tauranga, New Zealand; grandchildren, Jessica Tooley of Lanham, Maryland, Dylan Tooley of Streator, Thomas, Issac and Adam Leslie of Tauranga, New Zealand; brothers, Robert (Chris) McKim of Australia and John (Kathy) McKim of St. Louis, Missouri; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Born and raised in Waukegan he attended Waukegan grade schools and graduated from Waukegan High School.

He served in the United State Air Force from 1966 to 1970.

He lived in Waukegan, Iowa, Ohio and Michigan through the years before settling in Streator. He had previously worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He later worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company for 28 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. Upon retirement Bill worked part time for the YMCA.

He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790, Streator Moose Club, Streator Eagles Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the WATCH committee at his church.

Bill was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wood working and making homemade wine. He also bowled through the years and participated in several leagues.
