Alice Feken Obituary

Alice Mary Feken, 85, of Madison, Wisconsin and formerly of Streator passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 10th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, February 10th at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

Born September 8, 1938 in Streator, Alice was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Harcharik) Bednar. Alice was a resident of Streator for most of her life. She attended St. Stephen’s grade school and graduated from Streator High School in 1956. She was active in community groups such as the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and The Callere Club. Alice loved traveling and turned that passion into a career by owning and operating Heritage Travel & Tours in Streator during the 1980s-90s. After retirement, she lived a fulfilling life of cooking for family, being an avid reader, watching football, playing cards with friends, and continuing to travel - with Las Vegas being a frequent destination. Alice’s travels eventually helped her achieve her goal of visiting all 50 U.S. States. In her later years, Alice moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family and watch her grandson grow up.

Alice married the love of her life Ralph Feken on November 15th, 1958, who then preceded her in death on April 10th, 1980. Also preceding Alice in death were her parents Mary (Harcharik) Bednar and Thomas Bednar, her sister Mary Ann Jones, brother-in-law Bill Jones, sister Delores Laue, brother-in-law Don Laue, brother Bernard Bednar and sister-in-law Joyce Bednar, brother Donald Bednar and sister-in-law Claudette Bednar, and brother-in-law John “Jack” Feken.

Alice is survived by a son, James (Lisa) Feken of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; a grandson, Zachary Feken of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; a brother, Ron Bednar of Rancho Cordova, CA, and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her loving family & friends.

Memorials may be directed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or a charity of the donor's choice.
