Andrew Harcar Obituary

Andrew R. Harcar Sr, 81, of Streator passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Heritage Health, Streator IL surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 31, 2021 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M.

Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his son in law, Tim Graves; brother in law, Karl Kiss; nephews, Ralph Redd, Paul Higdon, Jimmy Harcar and his godson, Alex Redd. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born December 17, 1939 in Streator he was the son of Thomas and Anna (Lesak) Harcar. He married Maria M. Kiss on July 21, 1962 at Immaculate Conception Church, Streaor. She preceded him in death on November 1, 2017.

He is survived by his daughters, Veronica Manzella of Normal and Theresa (Tim) Graves of Streator; a son, Andrew Harcar Jr.; grandchildren, Matthew Manzella, Jennifer Manzella and Emma Graves; sisters, Frances (Oral) Higdon of Streator and Mary Ann Woodward of Bloomington; and a brother, James Harcar of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sisters, Ann Beckmon and Agnes Hornick; brothers, Thomas Jr., Joseph, Michael and William Harcar; a son in law, Richard Manzella; and a sister in law, Rose Harcar.

Born and raised in Streator, Andy attended St. Stephen’s Grade School. He attended 3 years of Seminary before graduating from Streator High School. He was a life-long member of the Former St. Stephen’s Parish, now called St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Parish, where he served as an usher. Andy was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and its Color Corp. and he was a past Faithful Navigator.

He was a United States Army Veteran.

Andy has been the National Vice-President of Membership and Marketing for the First Catholic Slovak Union for over 20 years. He was also a Licensed Insurance Producer for the State of Illinois for over 20 years. He was a past Branch officer for 38 years and a former FCSU District Officer for 14 years and a former Regional Director for Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and all points west. Andy was a Past President of the Indiana Fraternal Alliance.

Andy was a retired General Contractor in business for 36 years; as well as a Construction Consultant. He was co-owner of the Rock Bluffs Tree Farm for 42 years. He was a former carpentry instructor at Illinois Valley Community College for 21 years. He was also a member of Streator, Illinois Board of Appeals. Andy was a member of the Matica Slovenska, the Slovak Catholic Federation, and the Slovak Heritage and Cultural Society.

Andy was a member of AMVETS, the American Legion, and the American Tree Farm Association.

Andy was a former President Eastern Illinois University Parents Club Board of Directors and a former Girls’ Softball Coach and Boys’ Midget League Coach

Andy was extremely proud of his Slovak Heritage and he truly treasured his FCSU family who meant the world to him. Andy will be dearly missed by his children and grandchildren whom he loved very much. He was a wonderful and caring man who had a smile for everyone he met.
