Barbara J. Rose Obituary

  Barbara J. Rose, 93 of Streator passed away at 6:45 pm Sunday, October 12th 2025 in her home at the Villas of Holly Brook in Streator Illinois. 


  Born July 4, 1932 in Streator, she was the daughter of Pearl (James) and Joseph D. McCoy. Barbara spent her early years in Long Point Illinois before the family moved to Streator. Barbara attended Long Point and Streator schools before graduating from Streator High School in 1950. Upon graduation, Barb worked in Selecting at Owens Illinois from1950 to 1964, where she met Bill Rose.  


  Barbara and William A. “Bill” Rose were married at Central Church of Christ in Streator on


January 9, 1951. Barb and Bill remained happily married until Bill’s passing on December 8, 1993. Barbara never remarried. She was active for years in the First United Methodist church.  Barb served on various committees throughout the years including: Meals on Wheels, PTA, and the Women of the Streator Moose Lodge.  She cared deeply for animals and had several through the years including


her cats: Homer, Harold, Buttons, Frisky and Timmy.


  She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years, her first son William D. Rose, sisters: Virginia (Bill) Gaffney and Roseanne (Don) Lowe, brothers: Daniel (Lorraine Somerville),


John (Helen Olson), Bob (Betty Elton) and Terry (Norma Bray) McCoy, cousin: Marjorie Hall (Streator), nephews: Danny Lowe, David Lowe (Antonietta) and niece: Judy (Ron) Budzinski.


  Barbara was the last of the family - she is survived by sons: Michael (Susan Goslin) of Streator and


Thomas of Evanston; her grandchildren who meant the world to her, Allan William of Marseilles, Megan (Drew) Martin of Coal City and Mollie Rose of Streator; nieces and nephews: Debbie Lowe,


John (Ann Brady) McCoy, Catherine Blakley, Daniel J. McCoy, James D. Frye, Roberta Segers, Michael E. McCoy, Kathy Kiminsky, Jackie L. (Tim) McCormick and Carol Lee McCoy.


  As Barbara wished, there will be no public service or visitation. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery with her beloved husband Bill Rose.


  A beautiful, strong and tireless woman with a kind and generous soul, who left this world a better place.


  Memorials in her honor can be made to her church - First United Methodist in Streator, Livingston County Humane Society or Pads Homeless Shelter in Ottawa IL.
