Barry D. Koppen

  Barry D. Koppen of Streator passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Morris Hospital in Morris, Il.

  Born July 5, 1942 in Belvidere, Illinois, he was the son of Bernard and Ruth (Puterbaugh) Koppen.

  He married the love of his life, Nancy Haage on April 7, 1973 in Streator.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy Koppen of Streator, a son, Robert (Tami) Koppen of Ottawa, a grandson, Blaine (Rena Appell) Koppen of Ottawa, granddaughter, Tiffani Koppen of Arizona, a sister, Sandy (Greg) Kuhs of Hebron, a sister-in-law, Cheri Haage of Streator, a nephew, Rod Kmetz, of Montogomery, Il, and a special friend, Travis Ebbings of Montgomery, Il.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Brian Koppen, his mother in law and father in law Jean and Don Haage and his beloved companion dog Katie, who also passed away two hours before on the same day as Barry.

  Born and raised in Belvidere, he graduated from Belvidere High School and later attended Parkland Business School.

  He located to Streator in 1966 and became the Business Manager of International Harvester until their closing in 1981.

  He later worked for BMW Constructors at Exxon Mobil as the Office Manager until his retirement in 2010.  In his retirement, Barry enjoyed being a school bus driver for Illinois Central Bus Company driving the high school route from 2011 until 2019.

  Barry met his wife Nancy doing banking business for International Harvester at the Streator National Bank where she was employed.  They became friends, dated and he proposed marriage 54 years ago on May 20th.  Ironically that date was when he passed away too.

  Barry enjoyed many wonderful trips with his wife and family, showed off his talents at grilling at cook outs, making his house a home, and was very supportive of activities in Streator.

  He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, served as treasurer for Sandy Ford Sportsman Club for 31 years, served on the American Red Cross board and did payroll for the Visiting Nurses program for several years.

  Barry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.  He had so many special qualities.  He certainly will be missed by his family and friends.

  Private family services will be held with burial in Riverview Cemetery in Streator.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
