Bona ‘Peggy’ (Ator) Davis, age 96, passed away on January 5, 2026, in Springfield, Virginia, with her son William, and daughter-in-law Karen, at her side.
She was born May 14, 1929, in Ottawa, Illinois, a daughter of Lowell Ator and Grace (Clark) Ator, and was a graduate of Streator Township High School.
Bona was employed at Lipton Tea, in Streator, prior to attending Beauty School. She was a member of the Starved Rock Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association, and owner of the Pink Poodle Beauty Salon, in Streator. She later worked as an insurance agent for Teleperformance, in Streator, from where she retired in 2018.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Glenn, Lyndle, Larry, Don and John, and one grandson, Randall Palya.
She is survived by her two sons, William (Karen) Palya of Springfield, Virginia, Dean (Nancy) Palya of Buckeye, Arizona, three grandchildren, Laura Palya of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Dean (Luna) Palya Jr. of Surprise, Arizona, and Dayna Palya of Queens, New York, and two step grandchildren, Kayla Thompson of Manassas, VA and Alex Shaffer of Arlington, VA.
Bona’s resilience and independence were evident throughout her life. She was hard working and especially diligent in her efforts to raise her two sons. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, traveling across the country, and even overseas, to spend time with them and celebrate their accomplishments. She was a country music lover and was still attending live concerts well into to her 90’s. Bona’s life was one well lived, and she was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her love will carry on in the hearts of family and friends.
