Claudette Bednar Obituary

  Claudette Ann Bednar of Streator Illinois passed away on December 27th, 2021 at the age of 88 after several months of declining health.  Claudette passed away peacefully with her beloved children at her side at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa, Illinois.  

  Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator.

  Visitation will be Sunday January 9, 2020 from 2-5 pm at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 4:45 pm.    

  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be her loving grandchildren, Brett Stevens, Brad Stevens, Brian Stevens, Brendan Killian, Kevin Killian and Sean Killian. Vocalist at the funeral mass is her adoring grandchild, Stefanie Bednar.

  Born on September 25, 1933 in Streator, Claudette was a graduate of Streator High School in 1951. She married Donald T. Bednar on Nov. 8, 1952 and raised 4 children, Diane Flynn of Ft. Myers, Florida (James), Barbara Stevens Mefferd (Don) of Streator, David (Sharon English) of Sunset SC and Jacqueline Killian (Patrick) of Wheaton, Illinois.

  Claudette worked for Owens Illinois for over 35 years as an administrative assistant.  She was a member of the Elevenettes, a close social friends group.  

  Preceding her in death were her parents, Mildred (Wolf) Lechner and Henry Lechner, her husband Donald T. Bednar, and in-laws Ronald Gengenbacker, Mary Harcharik Bednar, Thomas Bednar (Butch), Mary Ann Bednar Jones, Bill Jones, Ralph Feken, Delores Laue and Donald Laue. 

  Surviving her are her 3 sisters, Donna Sabol (Dick) of Streator, Carol Dzurisin Brockman (Glen) of Ottawa and Doris Gengenbacker (Ron) of Streator, her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Brett Stevens (Ransom), Brad Stevens (Tonopah, Az), Brian Stevens (Chicago), Stefanie Bednar (Denver), Brendan Killian (St. Louis), Kevin Killian (Chicago), Bridget Killian (Iowa City), and Sean Killian (Wheaton).  Great grandchildren are Cade Stevens, Riley Stevens, and Kinsley Stevens of Ransom, Ava and Vaughn Stevens of Tonopah, Az.  

  Claudette was close with 18 nieces and nephews on both sides of the Lechner and Bednar families. 

  In addition to cheerleading Claudette also participated in the Dolphins synchronized swimming team while in High School. Claudette loved to golf and belonged to the women’s golf league in Streator and Ft Myers Hideaway Country Club.  She enjoyed traveling and socializing with friends.  She volunteered through the years at the Knights of Columbus Sunday Bingo and for funeral luncheons. She loved to watch college football and the Chicago Cubs.  She loved all sports and had a special place in her heart for Notre Dame.  Claudette also enjoyed reading novels. She will be missed by her loving family.  Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
