Delia E. Hillyer

Delia E. “Dee” Hillyer, 74, of Tonica passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Rodney Kreier will officiate.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be grandsons, David and Jonathan Hillyer, Richard Burton, Erika Blauvelt, Christy Zimmerman and Sally Thomas.

Born November 27, 1946 in LaSalle she was the daughter of Milo and Helen (Danish) Lock. She married Dave Hillyer on December 15, 1975 in Ancona. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1979.

She is survived by a son, Jeremy Hillyer of Tonica; grandsons, David (Raegen Poole) Hillyer of Tonica and Jonathan Hillyer of Tonica; and a brother, Mike (Jean) Lock of Texas; mother of her grandchildren, Lori Novotney; and a special friend, Ray Richardson of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Viola Faust.

Dee lived in the Streator, Grand Ridge and Tonica areas her lifetime.

She attended Deer Park Grade School and graduated from Streator High School. She also attended the University of Illinois.

She worked for the Streator Times Press for many years as an obituary writer. She later worked for The Times in Ottawa in the same capacity. She had previously worked for AM 1250 WIZZ radio in Streator.

She was active through the years belonging to the Streator Eagles and Moose Clubs, an Investment Club and several ladies social clubs.

She was also a former member of the Tonica School Board and a founding member of the PTC (Parent Teacher Community)

Dee loved reading the news, clipping coupons and collecting books. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
