Delores Joan (Brown) Durree, 90, of Mahtomedi, Minnesota and formerly of Streator passed away Friday, June 25, 2021.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Andrew’s Village, Mahtomedi, on July 5th at 2:00 p.m. A private burial service will be held at Wolf Creek Cemetery in rural Streator at a future date.
Delores was born September 19, 1930 in Streator, daughter of Donald James and Ellen Marie (Erickson) Brown, Sr.
She married Kenneth C. Durree on February 11, 1951 at the First Methodist Church, Streator. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2008.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Phyllis Cole) Durree of Tucson, Arizona; a daughter, Susan (Ronald) Monkman of Mahtomedi, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kent (Stacia) Durree of Tucson, Arizona, Stephanie (Trevor) Hawley of Tucson, Arizona and Ryan (Keely) Monkman of Chicago; great grandchildren, London Hawley, Sterling Hawley, Rivers Hawley, Arrow Hawley, Valor Hawley, Aven Durree and Iris Durree. Delores was excitedly anticipating the birth of her eighth great grandchild, Lincoln Kenneth Durree; many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald (Pauline) Brown, Jr.
Mrs. Durree and her husband farmed for 45 years northeast of Streator. She was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she served on the church board and various offices within the church. Mrs. Durree was proud of achieving her private pilot license along with her husband. Summers were enjoyed at their cabin in northern Wisconsin. She was admired by many for her watercolor designs on greeting cards and paintings, made for family and friends. She was a member of Chapter CM, PEO Sisterhood, Streator, serving as President and various offices. While on the farm she was active in 4-H leadership and helped form a Neighborhood Watch Program for rural areas. For the past 12 years, she was a resident of St. Andrew’s Village, Mahtomedi, Minnesota where she was active in the library, quilting team, and represented her floor residents to the facility administration.
Mrs. Durree was very proud of her family and active in the farming life with her husband of 57 years.
The family would like to thank the St. Andrew’s Village Assisted Living staff and the Lakeview Hospital Hospice staff for their excellent care of their mother for these past several months.
