Dennis J. Gaydos Obituary

  Dennis J. Gaydos, 85, of Chicago, passed away Tuesday, November 12,, 2024, at Paul House and Healthcare Center in Chicago.


  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00AM, Friday, November 15th, at St. Michael The Archangel Church, Streator.


  Born February 13, 1939, in Streator he was the son of John L. and Emma M. (Majernik) Gaydos.  He married Sharon E. Underwood at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator, and they enjoyed a long happy marriage.


  Dennis was a cherished father to six children, Russell (Ruth) Gaydos of Minnesota, Michael (Tammy) Gaydos of Texas, Theresa Fowler of Texas, Melissa (Dan) Nosal of Illinois, Kevin (Shannon) Gaydos of Illinois, and Elizabeth Gaydos of Illinois.  Dennis had nine beautiful grandchildren that he loved dearly, Cynthia (Kevin) Beamer of Wisconsin, Andrew (Sonya) Gaydos of Minnesota, Josh Gaydos of Texas, William Gaydos of Tennessee, Emily Gaydos of Texas, Kristin (Jeff) Fortner of Texas, Stephanie McMillen of Texas, Kaitlyn and Abby Nosal of Illinois as well as his twelve great-grandchildren Jacob and Sophie of Wisconsin, Eleanor, Matilda, and Bernadette of Minnesota, Mason, Luka, Lexton, Logan, Colin, McKenzie and Katelynn of Texas.


  He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Stephen Gaydos and Karla Huffman.


  Born and raised in Streator, Dennis attended St. Stephen’s Grade School, graduated from Streator High School, and graduated from his beloved University of Notre Dame, class of 1960. He was a former member of St. Stephen’s Church and Streator Knights of Columbus.


  As a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in civil engineering, Dennis came back to Streator and was the Assistant Plant Engineer at Owens-Illinois before transferring to O-I corporate headquarters in Toledo, Ohio, where he worked for over 35 years. 


  Dennis loved the Chicago White Sox and all things Notre Dame. 


  He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.


  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) in Dennis’ memory.
