Dorothy was born July 28, 1930 in Lexington, IL the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Nicholson) Carter.
She married Alfred Murray October 28. 1950 and was later divorced.
She is survived by three children, Sandra (Daniel) Keesee and Brenda Novotney both of Jacksonville and Alicia Halcomb of Manteno; grandchildren, Melinda (Billie) Ross, Travis (Amy) Keesee, Christopher Keesee, Laura (Jason) Clift, Adam Novotney, Austin, Andrew and Audra Halcomb; great-grandchildren: Natasha Schaefer, Isabelle Ekstam, Matthew and Samuel Keesee, Logan Keesee, Grace, Faith and Jillian Clift; and a great-great grandchild Kamden Crow. Also surviving is a very special friend and caregiver, Donna Lee, who showered our mom with love and affection.
She attended Ottawa grade schools and high school and later attended beauty school. Dorothy worked at Owens Illinois Glass Company for 20 year and Motorola, Westclox and Coils. She was also a hairdresser for fifteen years.
Dorothy was the go to person for anything anyone needed help for, especially wounds when we were growing up. During the years she was an avid fisherman, enjoyed horseback riding, gardening and wood crafts, but most of all cherished her family. Our mom was a woman of faith and lived her life that way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Smith and Jan Laura Zuchora; and two brothers, James and Richard Carter.
Memorials may be directed St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
