Elizabeth M. McLaughlin

Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Lynch) McLaughlin, 72, of Streator passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 P.M. Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Cody Lambert will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Friday, September 28, 2018 at the funeral home.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Private family burial will be held in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.

Born May 9, 1946 in in Chicago she was the daughter of James and Mary (Canty) Lynch. She married Donald “Butch” McLaughlin on June 18, 1971. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2003.

She is survived by sons, Danny “Pee Wee” Lynch of Streator and James “Jim” McLaughlin of Streator; step-daughters, Tammy Fribbs-Hallam of Streator and Angel Schuler of Streator; grandchildren, Jennifer (Cody) Lambert of Iowa and Josh Mehn of Streator; great grandchildren, Evan and Rowan Lambert; step-grandchildren and step- great grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Nana) Lynch of Streator; a sister, Mary Goplin of Streator; a sister in law, Barbara McLaughlin-Arnold of Morris; daughter in law, Jenny Dunning-Fribbs; special friends, Karen Mehn and Laverne Lepard; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter and a son in infancy; a step son, Randall Fribbs; a son in law, Patrick “Mark” Schuler; and the mother of her grandchildren, Donna Mehn.

Betty worked through the years for St. Mary’s Hospital Home Health as a private care nurse. She also worked many years as a waitress at the Streator Country Club, Elks’ Club, Paradise Island and various other restaurants.

Her true passion was caring for the elderly in their homes. She did private home care for many people from the age of 18 until her declining health would no longer allow her to do it.

She also worked at Wal-Mart in Ottawa until 2008.

People would always say the tires on her car would never cool off because she was always on the run.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the Eagles Club #645. Through the years she was a very active member the Women of the Moose. She earned several degrees while with the Moose including, Jr. and Sr. Regeant, Lady in Waiting, Green Cap, Red Stole, Academy Friendship and College Highest Degree.

She loved her family very much and all the family reunions. She had a special place in her heart for all the patients that she took care of in their homes. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
