Emmett Cave Obituary

Emmett J. Cave, 78, of Streator passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Rodney Kreier will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Skonetski, Ken Hillyer, Frank Francisco, Denny Bergeson, Tom Vagasky and Jerry O’Kraski.

Born April 19, 1941 in Newtown Township he was the son of Emmett and Catherine (Mertes) Cave. He married Judy Casey on July 24, 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Cave of Streator; daughters, Beth (Carl) Wedige, of San Antonio, TX, and Amy (Stephen) Baker, of Elmhurst, IL, a step-daughter, Traci Pouk, of Streator; 7 grandchildren; brothers, George (Bunny) Cave of Streator, Virgil (Janice ) Cave of Dana; sisters, Delores Christ of Texas, Rose Shanklin of Eureka, IL, and Peggy (Harold) Marshall, of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hank, Ron and Orville Cave; a sister Virginia Ondrey; a sister Shirley in infancy; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Emmett graduated from Streator Township High School in the class of 1959.

He was born a farmer and worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company for 42 years as a Machine Operator. He also served as his Unions President for many years.

An avid hunter and fisherman he belonged to Sandy Ford Sportsmen’s Club for many years. He particularly enjoyed Coon hunting. He also loved playing cards of all types with his friends and family. He and his wife Judy were active through the years with the Boot kicker’s Dancing Club. He also loved golfing every day in the last several years with his brother George at Anderson Fields Golf Course. He will be dearly missed by his loving family.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the Heritage Health Activity Fund, Streatorland Historical Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
