Obituary

  Francis Carroll “Rambo” Tallent, 83, of Cornell passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Illinois.

  Funeral services will be at 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  Rev. Paul Webster of Central Church of Christ will officiate.

  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Private family burial will be held at a later date at Phillip’s Cemetery, Streator.

  Born November 9, 1938 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, he was the son of Robert and Tora (Seabaugh) Tallent. He married Jeanette Hart on December 17, 1956 in Morris.

  He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Tallent of Cornell; daughters, Debra Kay (John) Irons of Manville and Carol Frances (Roger) Tallent-Hartman of Dekalb; sons, Michael Lee (Geri) Tallent of Flanagan and David Dean (Janet) Tallent of Manville; grandchildren, Elisha Knott, Kelsi Richard, Michael (Kristin) Tallent, Nicole Tallent, Alexis Tallent; three great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Clover.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Hunt; brothers Carl, Paul, Frank, Jerry Tallent; sisters, Maxine Stidham, Imogene Swope, Pauline McMichael, Roberta Barnard, and Eulene Warner.

  Francis was raised in Missouri and attended Missouri schools until he moved to Streator for work as a general contractor.  After arriving in Streator, he was hired by Owens Illinois and worked as a machine operator for 39 years until his retirement in 1993.  After retiring, he worked several years as a local truck driver for Modern Trucking.

  Francis was a member of the American Legion and served as a National Guard Reservist. He loved hunting, fishing, and trapping.  He enjoyed woodworking and raised rabbits.  He was also an avid coin and gun collector.  Francis was a very sociable person and will be missed by his family and friends.
