Gayle R. Overocker

Gayle R. Overocker, 70, of Ancona passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at her residence in Ancona.

Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born July 28, 1949 in Streator she was the daughter of George “Ducky” and Beatrice (Wahl) Sopko. She married Michael Overocker on June 19, 1970.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; her three children Molly (Thomas) Tibbles of Streator, Cassie (Victor) Ruiz of Normal, and Quintin (Meg) Overocker of Streator; five grandchildren, Hayley and Jake Tibbles, Derek and Nicholas Ruiz, and Lucy Jeane Overocker; brother, Ron (Linda) Sopko of Worland, WY; and sister, Georgia “G.G.” (Ron) Schneider of Streator; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her father, George “Ducky” Sopko; her mother, Beatrice (Wahl) Sopko; and a brother, Gary “Soupy” Sopko.

Gayle attended St. Stephen’s and Streator High schools. She worked at Woodland School for many years, where her compassion and thoughtfulness made a positive impact on all those she met and worked with. Much like her mother, Gayle loved the Cubs. She also loved her home and property where she and Mike lived; taking daily walks along the creek and around the pond with their chocolate labs (Dub and Sweet). Her family was her main joy in life. She cared deeply for her grandchildren, devoting countless happy hours to babysitting, entertaining, and making thousands of milkshakes for them. Gayle’s kindness will go ahead of her for years to come.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
