George R. Elko, 80, of Streator passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Parker Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 A.M. Monday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
Born February 23, 1941 in Streator, he was the son of George and Susan (Bresney) Elko, Sr. He married Patricia M. Harmon on December 28, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2020.
He is survived by a son, Clint (Carrie) Elko of El Paso; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jeff) Good of Ankeny, Iowa, Kaitlyn (Jon Reynolds) Elko of Ottawa, Ryan Collins of Ottawa, Kaylee Elko of East Peoria, Noah Smith and Asa Smith of El Paso; a great granddaughter, Ava Good; nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sons, Darren Elko and Shane Elko; sisters, Genevieve Matsko, Mary Ann Eccleston and Georgene Gahm; and brothers, Raymond, Richard and John Kutches.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He also belonged to the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.
He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company as a Machine Operator for many years until his retirement.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame Football. He also loved taking trips to watch his favorite teams with his kids and friends.
Memorials may be directed to St. Michael the Archangel Church or the St. Michael Cemetery Association.
