George Dean Wargo Obituary

   George “Dean” Wargo, 90, of Streator passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at the ARC at Streator.


  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 3rd at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. 


  Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday, June 2nd at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. 


  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.   Pallbearers will be Tyler Wargo, Andrew Wargo, Jeff Henson, Pat Henson, Darin Wargo and Mike Verdiramo.  Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Verdiramo and Scott Henson.


  Born July 20, 1934 in Streator he was the son of Andrew and Anna (Kmetz) Wargo.  He married Barbara Huckins on November 12, 1955 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator.  She preceded him in death on August 10, 2013.


  He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Henson of Oak Harbor, Washington; sons, Greg Wargo of Streator and Kevin (Linda) Wargo of Streator; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Huckins of Streator.


  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his grandson, Kyle Wargo; and his brother, John Wargo.


  He was born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1952.


  He served in the United States Navy from 1952-1955 during the Korean conflict.


  He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company in the Maintenance Department for many years until his retirement.


  He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.  He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 and the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217.


  An avid sports fan Dean loved the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame.  He was very active through the years with Streator Youth Baseball as a volunteer.  He loved coaching and inspiring the youth of the community and coached American Legion Baseball many years. 


  Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
