Gerald Grube Obituary

Gerald R. Grube, 80, of Streator passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at O.S. F. St. James Medical Center in Pontiac.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator. The family requests that facial coverings be worn by everyone attending the services at the church.

Born November 15, 1940 in Pontiac he was the son of Morris Richard and Mary (Leskanich) Grube. He married Irene Koprowski on June 3, 1961 at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene Grube of Streator; daughters, Susan (Detlef) Rothe of Darmstadt, Germany and Kerri (Theodore) Mather of Teaneck, New Jersey; a son, Mark Joseph (Kristen) Grube of Chicago; grandchildren, Alexandra Rothe of Leipzig, Germany, Axel (Lisa Marie) Rothe of Leipzig, Germany, Benjamin Mather of Teaneck, New Jersey and Ruby Mather of Tucson, Arizona; sisters, Linda Grube of Streator and Mary Beth (James) Sabino of Morris; sister in law, Carol (Steve) Shields of Dwight and a very dear family friend, Joyce Bianchi of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in law, Stanley and Irene Koprowski; and brother and sister in law, Joseph and Marlene Mattis.

He attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1958.

He worked through the years for Anthony Company, ARCO Concrete and Jero Black. He later worked for Caterpillar in Pontiac for 22 years until his retirement.

He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.

He was a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790, Streator Lions Club, Streator Elk’s Club and United Commercial Travelers. He enjoyed boating along with his family through the years and belonged to the Vermillion Boat Club where he served as the treasurer.

Jerry was involved with Streator Youth Baseball through the years coaching his son’s team to 3 consecutive City Championships.

Memorials may be directed to St. Michael the Archangel School, Guardian Angel Outreach or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
