Gregory L. Spangler, 63, of Streator passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at his residence in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 8th at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday, November 7th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator. Pallbearers will be his sons, Trace and Seth Spangler; his brother, David Spangler; Doug Battershell, Jim Hamrick and Jim Wagner.
Born December 21, 1959 he was the son of Jerry and Margaret (Yuhas) Spangler. He married Deborah Hamrick on September 7, 1991 in Streator.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Spangler of Streator; sons, Trace (Kelsey) Spangler of Streator and Seth (Lexi) Spangler of Streator; granddaughters, Natalie and Riley Spangler; his father, Jerry Spangler and his brother, David Spangler.
He was preceded in death by his mother; twin brothers, Charles and James; his brother, John and a sister in infancy.
Born in Streator he lived in Joliet and Taylorville in his youth moving back to Streator where he graduated from Streator High School. He attended Illinois Valley Community College where he received his electrical training.
He worked for Nicor Gas as a Controls Tester for 38 years retiring in 2016.
He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was an active member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790. He was known at the K of C for grilling the steaks for steak night for many years. He also was very active with the Streator Fest Committee.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing especially hunting duck, deer and elk. He most recently was getting into reef fishing while he was wintering in Florida. He loved vacationing in Chetek, Wisconsin and Lake Erie and traveling with his wife. He was truly an outdoorsman and enjoyed riding his two Harley Davidson motorcycles, captaining his boat and golfing several times a week. He was a great griller and cook and made delicious pies. Greg had many loves but none were as important to him as his loving family that will dearly miss him.
