Irene M. Simpson

Irene M. Simpson, 93, of Streator passed away peacefully Thursday, January 26, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at her residence in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 P.M. Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Ray Guthrie will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:30 A.M. Monday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 8:45 A.M.
Burial will be in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jeff, Mike and Randy Simpson and Gianni Giamberduca; and nephews, Bob and Jim Matusik.
Born March 10, 1923 in Streator she was the daughter of Frank and Caroline (Pieronkiewicz) Gura. She married Lyle F. Simpson on November 25, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1999.
She is survived by sons, Dale (Mary Jo) Simpson of Streator, Daniel “Duke” (Janet) Simpson of Naperville and Terry (Rebecca) Simpson of Streator; grandchildren, Jeff (Seana) Simpson of Warrenville, Lauren (Gianni) Giamberduca of Hawthorn Woods, Michael (Kate) Simpson of Pontiac, Tara Simpson of Beverly Hills, Florida and Randy (Chelsey Vangsness) Simpson of Byron; 5 great grandchildren; a sister in law, Grace Gura of Streator; several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerry Simpson; a granddaughter, Stacie Simpson; a sister, Helen Matusik and brothers, Walter and Edward Gura.
Born and raised in Streator she attended Streator schools.
She worked through the years for Paris Garter Factory and later worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company in the Selecting Department from where she retired.
She was a member of the former St. Casimir’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
