James V. Cox, 73, of Streator passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at his residence in Streator.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Born May 17, 1950 in Price, Utah, he was the son of Jack and Sherry (Marshall) Cox. He married Julie (Sabatka) Cox on September 25, 1971 in Orange County, California.
He is survived by his wife, sons, Jay Cox of Lockport, Nicholas (Rebecca) Cox of Lombard, Matthew Cox of Shorewood, Christopher (Nicole) Cox of Mokena; a daughter, Patricia (Benjamin) Denham of Streator; eight grandchildren; a brother, Dana Cox of American Fork, Utah; a sister, Debbie Zenger of Midway, Utah and many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born and raised in Utah and attended Lincoln Jr. High School. As a young boy James was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned the highest rank attainable, Eagle Scout. He graduated from Orem High School, class of 1968 and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served two tours in Vietnam from 1970-1974 on the Destroyer DDA 52, USS Leonard F. Mason.
Once discharged from the Navy, James attended a HVAC school in Chicago. He proceeded to work as an HVAC technician for over forty years until his retirement from Dependable Building Services in 2015.
James had many interests. He was very curious and had a hunger for knowledge. He liked to read, do crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. He also enjoyed fishing and bow hunting for deer but what he treasured most was spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to a homeless veterans charity.
