James L. Hersheway, 84, of Streator passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the ARC at Streator. 

  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 26th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Friday, July 26th at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. 

  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator.

  Born April 7, 1940 in Streator he was the son of Anis Ernest “Ernie” and Helen (Kudrick) Hersheway.  He married Rosemary Pizzolato on May 21, 1960 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator.  She preceded him in death on November 4, 2015.

  He is survived by a daughter, Lori (Dan) Winn of Mundelein; a son, James J. Hersheway of Marquette, Michigan; grandchildren, Courtney (Brian) Miller, Callie Rae Hersheway (Sean) Love, Seth (Monicka) Hersheway, Allison (Brian) Volkman and Katie Winn; great grandchildren, Adam Miller; Beatrice and Van Love; Rosemarion and Axel Hersheway; and Caroline Rose Volkman; he is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Eggleston of Kentucky.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

  Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1958.

  He worked for Pontiac Prison for 34 years; retiring as a Sergeant in 1998.

  He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church, the Knights of Columbus and Sandy Ford Sportsmen’s Club.

  Jim was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and canoeing. He was also a gun enthusiast.
