James B. Hombaker Obituary

  James B. Hombaker, 82, of Streator passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.


  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, May 31st at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.


  Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Saturday, May 31st at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.


  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Cremation rites have been accorded.


  Born August 23, 1942 in Streator he was the son of Elwin and Frances (Allison) Hombaker.  He married Shirley Chismar on June 29, 1963 at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator.


  He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hombaker of Streator; a son, Jim (Theresa) Hombaker of Streator; daughters, Suzette Haar of Virginia and Christine (Colton) Wildhaber of Streator; grandchildren, Jeremy (Tara) Richard, Andrew (Jacklyn) Richard, Ashley (Chris) Johnson, David Hombaker, Jennifer (Trevor Elias) Wildhaber, Lauren (Brett) Schreiber and Lindsey (Casper) Gensler; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Sandra) Meyer of Florida and Kenneth Hombaker of Florida; a sister, Helen Harsted of Streator; many nieces and nephews also survive.


  He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Anita Ross, William and Jack Hombaker; Robert Meyer and Laura Allison; his stepfather who raised him, Carl Meyer; and his son in law, Kent Haar.


  Born and raised in Streator he attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School.


  He worked through the years for Owens Illinois Glass Company and later for Pontiac Prison where he was employed as a Correctional Officer for 27 years until his retirement in 2003.


  He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s and St. Anthony’s Church’s and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.  He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790, the Streator Eagle’s Club and the AFSCME.


  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
