James Pshak Obituary

  James R. Pshak, 82, of Streator passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at O.S.F. St. James Medical Center in Pontiac.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 4th at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church.

  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 4th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Pshak, Michael Smetanko, Michael Swiskoski, Oliver Pshak, Keegan Smetanko, Nicholas Swiskoski and Rick Pshak.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jessica Swiskoski, Ann Marie Fitzgerald, Camille Pshak and Heidi Pshak.

  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

  Born November 29, 1940 in Streator he was the son of John and Mary (Perhach) Pshak.  He married Sandra Shaffer on October 11, 1969 which would have been their 54th wedding anniversary. 

  He is survived by daughters, Julie (Michael) Smetanko of Streator and Brenda (Michael) Swiskoski of Streator; a son, Dr. Thomas (Trisha) Pshak of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Keegan Smetanko, Jessica Swiskoski, Ann Marie (Logan) Fitzgerald, Nicholas Swiskoski, Oliver Pshak, Camille Pshak and Heidi Pshak; great grandchild, Maisie Fitzgerald and one great grandchild on the way; his mother in law, Hazel Fellows also survives.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a great grandchild, Breken, and brothers, John, William, Robert and Ronald Pshak.

  Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Woodland High School in the class of 1958.

 He served in the United States Army. 

  He worked through the years for Owens Illinois as a mechanic.

  He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.  He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790.

  Jim loved sports, particularly the Bears and Cubs.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to Vegas with his wife Sandy.

  Memorials may be directed to charity of the donor’s choice.
