Jerry Spangler Obituary

  Jerry L. Spangler, 91, of Streator passed away Monday, November 24. 2025 at the ARC of Streator.

  Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 29th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. 

  Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Saturday, November 29th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and the Long Point American Legion Post 1217.   

  Born December 23, 1933 in Streator he was the son of Virgil and Leora (Dulian) Spangler.  He married Margaret M. Yuhas on February 23, 1957.  She preceded him in death on January 30, 2019.

  He is survived by a son, David Spangler of Streator; a daughter in law, Debbie Spangler; grandsons, Trace (Kelsey) Spangler of Cooksville and Seth (Lexi) Spangler of Streator; 2 great grandchildren, Natalie and Riley also survive.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; twin sons, Charles and James, sons, John and Greg Spangler; a daughter in infancy; and a brother, John “Jack” Spangler.

  Born and raised in Streator he attended Garfield Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1952.

  He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 having spent time in Alaska while in the service.

  Jerry worked for Commonwealth Edison (Exelon) for over 40 years in the Electrical Maintenance Department. He spent time working and living in Streator, Joliet and Taylorville through the years.

  He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Streator.  He served the church through the years as a Trustee and also a member of the Methodist Men.

  Jerry had many interests through the years. He was an outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing and taking care of his yard. He was a runner and completed the Chicago Marathon in 1987.  In recent years, he regularly enjoyed walking as a daily activity.  He dabbled in winemaking and beer making and enjoyed sports and the Chicago White Sox.

  Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.
