Jimmie D. Lansford, 82, of Streator passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Plumb Pavilion at the Streator City Park.
Born December 14, 1939, he was the son of Charles and Edna (Grubaugh) Lansford. He married Georgene (Gigi) McClure on May 25, 1996.
He is survived by his wife Gigi Lansford of Streator; sons, David (Meredith) Lansford of Geneva, Ryan Lansford and Mark (Rachel) Lansford of Streator; daughters Becky (Bob) Breen of Bloomington, Stephanie Broecker of Las Vegas, and Samantha (Jarret) Callahan of Chicago; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother-in laws Steven (Jane) McClure and Tim (Suzy) McClure and sister-law Deb (Mike) Katcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
Born in Vandalia, he came to Streator after serving in the United States Marines 1957-1960 and the United States Army 1960-1963 including a tour in Viet Nam. He attended Brownstown High School and later in life studied at Illinois Valley Community College, University of St. Francis and the University of Notre Dame completing his higher education with a Master’s degree.
Jim worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator for 33 years in various positions advancing to CEO/Administrator. He then held management positions at Union Bank for 8 years and the American Red Cross for 5 years before retiring. Elected positions include Illinois Valley Community College trustee from 1996-2004, Streator City Councilman from 2005-2010 and Mayor of Streator from 2010-2021. Jim was a firm believer in giving back to the community and service to others. Projects of notable significance to Jim have been the Viet Nam memorial, Plumb Pavilion and Soderstrom Memorial in the City Park, and restoration work at the Streator Public Library. Volunteer roles included extensive participation in veteran’s activities and events, an HSHS medical mission trip to Haiti, and traveling with the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance group to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. He served on HSHS and OSF hospital boards, was an active member of the Streator Chamber of Commerce and economic development committees. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, AmVets, Elks, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and SAFOE to name a few.
Memorials may be made to the Streator United Way or to a charity of the donor's choice.
